MUSEUM OF SILVERSMITHING IN IOANNINA
Construction of the new Museum of Silversmithing in Ioannina at the western bastion of the Itch-Kale fortress, along with the adjacent building for the kitchens.
A fundamental principle for all restoration works was to respect the architectural and construction characteristics of the building as a fortification structure from the 19th century.
The works aimed at the architectural and structural restoration of the building and the adaptation of the spaces to the functions of the Museum with the minimal possible interventions on the existing stone shell, in a way that meets the specifications of a museum.
The museum’s program includes the following:
- Entrance area, information desk, and ticketing
- Exhibition spaces (permanent exhibition on the technology of silversmithing and a thematic collection)
- Educational program area
- Multipurpose room and temporary exhibition space
- Gift shop and café
- Restrooms
- Staff offices
- Storage areas
- Electrical and mechanical installation spaces
